DAS Solar CTO Discusses the Impact of New Metalation Technology on Cost and Efficiency in TOPCon 4.0 Plus

2024-07-31

Wenzhou, Jul. 29, 2024 - DAS Solar, a leader in N-type PV technology, attends the Forum on the Development and Innovation of New Photovoltaic Metalation Industry held in Zhejiang, China. The forum brings together global industry stakeholders to discuss the latest progress of PV metalation technology and its application prospects. Dr. Dengyuan Song, CTO of DAS Solar, delivers a keynote speech on ‘TOPCon 4.0 Plus 0BB Technology Reduces Costs and Increases Efficiency of PV Metalation Technology’.

Dr. Song points out in his speech that PV industrialization technology is in a new period, and the rapid development of high-efficiency N-type cells cannot be separated from the innovation drive of metalation technology. By virtue of high efficiency, high power, high bi-facial rate, low attenuation, and high reliability, TOPCon has already replaced PERC to become the mainstream technology in the industry. According to research institutions, the proportion of TOPCon products is estimated to reach 70% or even higher in 2024, and will become the mainstream technology in the next five years. Meanwhile, DAS Solar has set the world record for conversion efficiency of large-area TOPCon cells for three consecutive times within eight months. With N-type technology at its core, the cell achieves an impressive mass production efficiency of up to 26.6%, and a open circuit voltage of 742mV. In addition, the company has rich experience in intellectual property, with the patent quantity ranking Top100 in the RE industry.

Speaking of the new metalated 0BB technology, Dr. Song introduces that it enables a significant reduction in cell silver paste consumption while lowering grid shading and improving module yields with a more balanced cell stress distribution. The 0BB module unveiled during the SNEC is equipped with self-developed TOPCon 4.0 Plus cell technology. By stacking the front side of the cell without busbar design, it reduces the silver consumption while reducing the light blockage, thus increasing the power generation. The module also makes innovative use of negative pitch design to optimize the size, which better meets the market demand and improves the conversion efficiency, making it another signature product that practices cost reduction and efficiency enhancement.

During the forum, Dr. Song is appointed as a member of the expert committee of the New Photovoltaic Metalation Industry Development and Innovation Platform. The platform gathers backbone enterprises, universities, and research institutes of the industrial chain to carry out technology development and industrial cooperation, aiming to promote the development of silver-free technology in the metalation process. Faced with the increasing risk of the silver paste consumption surge, the platform is expected to facilitate the conversion of metalation technology into new productivity, supporting the transition towards cost reduction and efficiency gains.

Dedicated to this shared target, DAS Solar explores the way to reduces costs from cell to module while consolidating product quality, and is committed to enhancing the long-term value of modules in the whole life cycle. In the course of more than five years, the company has seen innovation and R&D as its core, with the annual module shipment ranking TOP10 globally. In the pursuit of technological leadership, DAS Solar focuses on TOPCon, DBC, CSPC, TSiP, SFOS and other technology routes, and the cell efficiency is expected to exceed 40%.

Looking to the future, DAS Solar will continue to empower a sustainable future with industry-leading N-type technology and all-scenario solutions, upholding the vision of a zero-carbon planet where humans and nature coexist.
