Athens, Sept. 18, 2024 - DAS Solar, a leader in N-type PV technology, and Smartsun, a top Greek company specializing in the design and construction of solar energy projects, have successfully completed solar parks in northern Greece with a total capacity of 82 MW. The projects utilize 136,000 cutting-edge Rectangular N-type TOPCon modules from DAS Solar, designed for maximum efficiency and durability in utility solar installations.
With abundant sunlight resources, solar energy now accounts for approximately 18.4% of Greece’s power generation, making it the European country with the highest share of solar energy in its power generation mix. In recent years, Greece has actively promoted PV technology, making solar energy a critical driver in the country’s efforts to accelerate its clean transition. According to research institutions, Greece added 1.59 GW of new PV capacity in 2023 alone, setting a new annual record.
Powered by DAS Solar’s N-type rectangular modules, the project marks another milestone of the company’s solar expansion. With standardized dimensions, the modules lay a solid foundation for the upstream and downstream collaboration within the supply chain. By virtue of advantages in efficiency, power output, manufacturing, transportation, and production processes, they effectively reduce BOS costs and LCOE, ensuring reliable power generation and stable returns over the entire life-cycle.
Dimitris Nikolaidis, Founder & General Manager of Smartsun, expresses his sincere gratitude for the successful collaboration. He emphasizes on the timely and impeccable delivery of high-performance, state-of-the-art modules, even amidst significant global supply chain challenges. This accomplishment showcases the strength of the partnership between the two parties, demonstrating their ability to overcome obstacles and deliver exceptional results.
George Demenagas, Sales Director of South Balkan of DAS Solar, praises Smartsun’s professionalism and responsiveness throughout all phases. He highlights the strategic importance of Greece as a focal point for DAS Solar’s expansion into the European market. Demenagas also underscores DAS Solar’s pioneering role in N-Type TOPCon technology development. Over the past eight months, the company has set the world record for conversion efficiency of large-area TOPCon cells for three consecutive times. The cell achieves an impressive mass production efficiency of up to 26.6%, and a open-circuit voltage of 742mV. This remarkable achievement indicates DAS Solar’s leadership in technological innovation, as its modules—powered by TOPCon 4.0 Plus solar cells—reach a mass production efficiency of up to 26.55%.
As a BNEF Tier 1 Module Maker and a Top PV Brand in Greece certified by EUPD, DAS Solar is a perfect solution provider for the mature Greek market. The latest partnership adds on its local advantage and marks an advancement in its presence in Europe, while driving forward the country’s carbon neutrality goals with clean power for thousands of homes. The collaboration between DAS Solar and Smartsun symbolizes a shared vision for a future powered by green energy, where innovation and dedication work hand in hand to overcome challenges and seize opportunities.
The project in Greece is just the beginning of the greater impact DAS Solar will continue to make in shaping the energy future.
