Behind EcoVadis Platinum Rating: The Formula of DAS Solar's Road to Sustainability

2025-09-01

DAS Solar has recently achieved a major breakthrough in its sustainability journey, earning a Platinum rating from EcoVadis with a score of 84, making it one of only two companies in the global PV industry to receive this distinction. The company is also the seventh large-scale Chinese enterprise to attain Platinum rating and is tied for the highest score globally among all Platinum-rated companies. The rating reflects DAS Solar's strong performance across four key ESG areas: governance, environment, labor & human rights, and sustainable procurement, and underscores the company's long-term commitment to responsible growth and sustainable innovation.

Governance: Strengthening Compliance and Operational Integrity

DAS Solar has maintained a clean compliance record, with zero legal or regulatory violations over the past three years. In 2024 alone, the company successfully defended against more than 1.18 million attempted cyberattacks, highlighting the robustness of its digital security infrastructure. It also conducted 340 internal security inspections, ensuring thorough risk management in all operations.

Quality management has also seen notable improvement. For example, the defective rate in glass placement at the Taizhou base dropped from 77 PPM to 8 PPM, a reduction of nearly 90%. Meanwhile, customer complaint rates have remained extremely low, with only seven incidents reported across millions of modules shipped. Overall customer satisfaction reached 96.8%, supported by enhanced responsiveness and quality assurance processes.

Environment: Reducing Emissions and Resource Use Across Operations

In 2024, DAS Solar invested CNY 37.57 million in environmental initiatives and recorded zero environmental violations. The company implemented 40 energy-saving projects, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 8,471 tons of CO₂, equivalent to removing over 4,000 vehicles from the road. These efforts generated CNY 10.24 million in annual economic returns, demonstrating that sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand.

DAS Solar also continued to expand its self-generation capacity, with four of its manufacturing bases reaching a total of 55.94 MW of installed solar capacity, generating 95.67 million kWh of electricity in 2024, enough to cover the annual power consumption of roughly 3,000 households.

The company's Quzhou base saved nearly 100,000 tons of water over the year, while hazardous waste intensity decreased by 23.5% per GW of production. Carbon emissions per lightweight module also dropped by 17.3%, equivalent to a 19 kg CO₂ reduction per unit compared to traditional modules.

By the end of 2024, DAS Solar's modules shipped worldwide contributed to annual reductions of over 21 million tons of standard coal consumption and nearly 58 million tons of CO₂ emissions — a measurable contribution to global decarbonization.

Social Responsibility: Creating Long-Term Shared Value

In 2024, DAS Solar invested CNY 14.67 million in social initiatives, including support for 58 rural school reading rooms. The company also donated a 303.74 kWp rooftop PV system to a nursing home in Meizhou, expected to generate 7.83 million kWh over 25 years, equivalent to a full year of electricity for more than 2,400 households and projected to generate CNY 3.55 million in savings.

The Tengmi Mountain PV project generated 249 million kWh in 2024, powering over 78,000 households, while contributing CNY 12 million in local taxes and supporting infrastructure development such as rural road construction. These projects highlight how renewable energy can deliver both environmental and socio-economic benefits at scale.

A Model for ESG in the Solar Sector

The transition from Silver to Platinum in the EcoVadis ratings marks a significant step forward for DAS Solar in its global ESG strategy. In a competitive solar industry where sustainability is an increasingly critical differentiator, this recognition affirms the company's progress in building strong governance structures, reducing environmental impact, delivering social value, and enhancing supply chain sustainability.

As more international customers incorporate ESG metrics into their procurement decisions, the Platinum rating strengthens DAS Solar's position in global markets, particularly in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. DAS Solar will continue to embed ESG principles across its operations from product development to supply chain management, and aims to play a leading role in shaping a cleaner, more responsible energy future.
